Specializing in portraits and small weddings

Hello! And welcome

My name’s Matt and I am based in Rochester, NY. I’ve spent about ten years working for newspapers and freelancing for publications like The New York Times, The Washington Post, Pro Publica, Getty Images and others. View my other portfolio here: www.mattburkhartt.com

The moment I decided I wanted to be a photojournalist was at a wedding reception, while working as a videographer. I felt alive capturing beautiful, raw moments of joy, and I wanted to replicate that feeling forever. Working at newspapers, I‘ve captured emotions across the spectrum and learned how to look for moments both big and subtle.

When I was in my formative years at Rochester Institute of Technology, I learned how to get close, not just physically, but emotionally. I am in love with love, and I want to be close with my camera to the love you share with your partner.

When I’m not photographing, I love running with Rochester’s best run club, Stride Run Club. In the summer months, I meticulously tend to my small garden, pulling weeds and conducting a morning patrol to check on my flowers. I have a hot and cold relationship with my cat, Lola with whom I live in the South Wedge.
